This is a great little book for study circles and study circle leaders as an introductory syllabus to the general understanding of islam. It is structured in the form of lessons with assesment sheets.

About the author...

Dr Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa where he studied Quran and Islamic Studies. He completed B.Pharm, BSc (Hon) and Pharm.D degrees in South Africa and the United States before migrating to Australia. He lectured part-time for several years at the University of Sydney. He works actively with youth and contributes to several community-based organisations.

Dr Matthews helped co-ordinate national statements in regard to the government's Muslim Community Reference Group, the pro-hijab campaign and others. He has served as a guest on a number of forums including the Sydney Leadership Program 2007. He has published several papers and given many presentations and media interviews on Islamic topics. In April 2007 he served as an online moderator answering questions for the Sydney Morning Herald's special feature on Islam in Australia. He currently serves as the president of the Australian Islamic Mission.
